Project Overview
KARM DESIGN was commissioned to re-engineer a volute casing, casing liner, and impeller for a process pump that was suffering from accelerated wear and reduced efficiency. The client needed a durable solution that would improve both wear life and operational performance over the original design.
Solution
Our engineers carried out a full dimensional assessment of the existing components and applied material and design enhancements during the re-engineering phase.
- All wetted components were manufactured from high-chromium white iron, providing superior abrasion and erosion resistance.
- Key clearances were refined to improve hydraulic efficiency and reduce recirculation losses.
- Subtle geometric optimisations were introduced to enhance overall pump reliability and flow characteristics.
Each component was precision-machined and inspected in-house to ensure compatibility with the existing pump assembly and consistent high-quality finish.
Results
Improved Wear Life
High-chromium white iron extends service life in abrasive conditions
Enhanced Efficiency
Tightened clearances deliver improved hydraulic performance
Reduced Downtime
Longer component life and reduced maintenance frequency.
Performance Beyond OEM
The re-engineered unit achieved greater durability and operating stability than the original design.
This project highlights KARM DESIGN’s ability to enhance OEM designs, combining metallurgical expertise, precision manufacturing, and detailed engineering improvements to deliver measurable performance gains and longer equipment life.
